Orangutan
When I create works that are completely monochrome, I aim to capture the mood and the feeling of the subject. An intensity that can be felt, Orangutan embodies this for me. His expression and his eyes are all knowing.
This drawing is not white on black but black on white. The paper is still Arches 640gsm and the same as my other statement pieces. The light you can see is the paper underneath the ink. Creating this piece was about less is more and to know when to let the paper be the light. The thick hairs on the jowls of Orangutan were individually drawn around and the paper left to be the hair.
Original Orangutan took over 200 hrs to complete.
He was shortlisted for The David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year Award 2020
Giclée prints are available in various sizes and up to the original size
